Discovering Calecim Professional

Just over a year ago I discovered the power of stem cells in skincare when I attended a professional lecture for the introduction of Calecim Professional to the UK with exclusive distribution through Church Pharmacy. I was so impressed with the research and evidence of results that I introduced their at-home treatment skin care, as well as the powerhouse Calecim Professional serum into our in-clinic skin treatments. Since then many of our patients have become Calecim advocates because they have seen wonderful benefits to thier overall skin health.

Calecim is the only mamillian cord lining stem cell skincare in the world and has patented its biotechnology globally. Parent company of CALECIM® Professional, CellResearch Corporation, is a biotechnology company that discovered the presence of stem cells in the umbilical cord lining 10 years ago. It has been found that this is the richest source of epithelial and mesenchymal stem cells from a non-embryonic source. CALECIM® Professional draws on its parent company’s patented stem cell knowledge that is currently also being utilized in US FDA clinical trials for wound-healing. Until now, stem cell use in skin care has primarlily been plant sourced which does not have as good an affinity with our own mamillian cells. Stem cell use in general is still relativly rare and has an element of mystery and misunderstanding around them. Whilst I have a good understanding of what Calecim Professional can achieve for my patients I still yearned for further understanding of how it is made and why it is so beneficial to skin.

Visiting the homeland of Calecim Professional

This time last week I had arrived in Singapore, feeling groggy and tired after a 16 hour journey to this tropical urban mecca of Asia, and homeland of Cell Research Corp and Calecim Professional. What an honour to have been invited to visit their science labs and meet the team responsible behind Calecim’s success.

Nick Lang, Associate Director of Calecim Professional, was kind enough to take time out and provide a tour of the science lab to witness how Red Deer umbilical cord lining stem cells are harvested, cultivated, and expanded for the benefit of millions of peoples skin around the world. When I entered the lab (after a quick change into a giant baby grow and a flurry with an air chamber to ensure my cleanliness), I was met by the lab technition who was responsible that day for replenishing each stacked petridish with a growth medium that encourages the stem cells to live, secrete and expand. Seeing these tiny power houses under the microscope was an incredible experience. What I hadn’t realised was how vulnerable these little stem cells are and the great lengths the Calecim scientists go to keep them healthy. What I also learned was that the Calecim products are actually stem cell free and contain no actual stem cells because they would simply die in an external environment. Instead what Cell Research Corp and Calecim have created is a way to utilise the stem cells in a controlled environment, nourish them to keep them alive, and let them do what they naturally do; secrete cellular building blocks and chemical messengers. These cellular building blocks are then collected, processed and created into the magic formulation we know as Calecim Professional. When applied to the skin these messengers are still activated to switch on skin cell processes, such as reducing inflammation, and tell the skin to behave more youthfull manner.

Why Red Deer Umbilical Cord Lining Stem Cells?

This was a question I had been wanting to ask for a while, but feared I might not like the answer to. I’m not a vegan, but it did cross my mind about animals being used for skincare. The answer from Nick Lang was simple. Red Deer don’t possess extra special stem cells. Red deer were simply the best mamillian match that were free from disease and were already farmed within New Zealand, where the strictest of animal welfare laws apply. Animal welfare was a high priority on their list when looking for the best source of mamillian stem cells. These free range deer are allowed to roam freely and when they give birth the umbilical cord is collected and used by calecim. Plus Calecim do not test their products on animals, so all round Calecim is a cruelty free product.

What is special is the patented technology Cell Research Corp created in order to keep these stem cells alive and secreting. From a single umbilical cord they can harvest and expand hundreds of thousands of stem cells. In fact in the last 4 years, they have only required a few cord linings to produce the worlds supply of Calecim Professional. Pretty mind blowing really!

The Extra Special Calecim Treatment

As part of my educational tour I was also taken to a local skin clinic called Shiro Aesthetic clinic, where I was given a non-invasive Calecim Oxygenating facial. What a treat! Plus it gave me a great insight into how I could introduce an effective clinical facial at Lumiere MediSpa in Oxford, that wouldn’t have any downtime.
